Giants come away with pivotal win (0:47)

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The New York Giants are placing running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, general manager Joe Schoen announced Tuesday.

Tracy was set to split the majority of the running back reps with Cam Skattebo prior to suffering the injury in Sunday's 27-21 win over the Houston Texans. He left in the first half after logging 10 offensive snaps to Skattebo's 13.

Devin Singletary, who scored the game-winning touchdown in Houston, is expected to play a bigger role in Tracy's absence. The Giants are also signing running back Greg Desrosiers off the practice squad from the Los Angeles Chargers to take Tracy's roster spot.

"We have lots of confidence in [Skattebo] and Singletary," Schoen said. "And we'll have to see what Greg can do."

Schoen did not think Tracy's injury would be long-term, but he still has to miss a minimum of four games.

The Giants (4-2-1) are on their bye week and next play the Philadelphia Eagles on Nov. 7.

It does not appear the Giants are desperate to make a trade for a running back, even though there has been speculation about Indianapolis' Jonathan Taylor being available. Schoen didn't close the door on any potential moves, but he did note that the Giants are short on picks in next year's draft.

The Giants are already without fourth- and fifth-round picks in the 2027 NFL draft.

"We're going to look at all the options that are available and certain teams have already started some trades," Schoen said. "We've been in contact with those teams and have a pretty good idea who may or may not be available. And it's got to make sense short-term and long-term."

Skattebo rushed for a career-high 124 yards (including 97 in the second half) against the Texans after being demoted for the previous game. He didn't have a single carry the prior week in a loss to the New Orleans Saints.

Tracy had scored touchdowns in consecutive weeks prior to the injury. He had a rushing touchdown in the first quarter against the Texans.

The third-year back came into the season expected to share the workload with Skattebo, but a missed block in the preseason that sent quarterback Jaxson Dart to the injury tent and a fumble in the opener against the Dallas Cowboys landed him in the doghouse.

Tracy was relegated to mostly special teams the next few weeks; he had just two carries over the next three games. But he slowly worked himself back into the mix, and he tied his season high with six carries in less than a half of action on Sunday.

Tracy's spirits were high after the dramatic win over Houston and it did not appear the injury was serious. He said he first felt the hamstring during practice earlier in the week.

Tracy, 26, had more than 1,000 all-purpose yards (receiving and rushing) in each of his first two seasons with the Giants. He was a fifth-round pick out of Iowa and has 55 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries this season.
