ATLANTA -- The Braves activated relief pitcher Robert Suarez on Wednesday after he spent more than three months on the injured list with right elbow inflammation.
Braves manager Walt Weiss said he will aim to use Suarez on Wednesday night against Cincinnati and again Saturday against Miami to prepare him for the postseason. If things go according to plan, Suarez will resume his role as the Braves' set-up man for closer Raisel Iglesias.
Suarez thrived in his first year with the Braves before to the injury, posting an 0.56 ERA in 31 appearances out of the bullpen. The two-time All-Star has pitched in three postseasons with San Diego before coming to Atlanta with a 2.45 ERA in 12 games.
Suarez pitched a scoreless inning Sunday for Triple-A Gwinnett in his only rehab appearance.
The Braves sent right-hander Owen Murphy to Triple-A Gwinnett to make room on the roster for Suarez.
