Daruda to captain young Australians

Queensland's Scott Daruda will captain Australia in their second match at the IRB Under 19 World Championship, when they take on Argentina at Woodburn Stadium, Pietermaritzburg today.

Daruda rejoined the national Under 19 side in South Africa at the weekend, after missing the team's departure and first match against France because of a call up to the Queensland Reds.

The flyhalf/centre's return is a bonus for the Australians, who are expecting to face a fired up Argentine side smarting from their 62-18 loss to hosts South Africa in their opening match.

Australian coach Scott Wisemantel said the team's settling in period was over and tonight they were looking to improve on their opening performance.

"We've been here more than a week now and have had plenty of time to iron out the niggly bits and pieces, like adjusting to time differences and acclimatisation," Wisemantel said.

"Durban's climate is similar to Sydney and Coffs Harbour, so the pre-tournament camps in these locations allowed everyone to settle in well and quickly, although we're expecting the weather for tonight's match to be a bit warmer because Woodburn's in from the coast."

"Our first match against France was a great way to kick off the tournament and we've since looked at both the positives and areas for improvement from the match and will be making some small changes against Argentina tonight."

"Argentina suffered a heavy loss to South Africa in their opening match and we know they won't want to repeat that result."

"The guys know they have to stay on top of our defence and show the same grit and determination they did against France, especially up front, which is where vice captains Richard Stanford and Pekahou Cowan will play an important role."
