Lane sticks with Cats

Former assistant Springbok coach Tim Lane has decided to turn down offers to move overseas and instead stick the The Cats.

Lane had been touted by Irishprovince Leinster and English club Saracens but has decided to remain with the Super 12 franchise in a bid to turn around their fortunes.

The Cats finished last in this year's Super 12, but the former World Cup-winning Wallaby assistant coach is determined to bolster their playing resources with some experienced men.

Lane revealed to the Cape Times that he wanted to bring Chester Williams on board as an assistant.

He was also hopeful of retaining the services of Bok defence man Ray Mordt and wants to appoint a forwards coach.

"After the Super 12, I will be looking at other options. I have had a tentative approach from a smaller rugby country," Lane told the newspaper.

"Hopefully I can pass on some knowledge to Chester and I can also benefit from his input."

"I don't have to prove anything to anyone. I want to be with the Cats players. They are a good, young squad. I will be looking to strengthen a few positions and I want to leave on a positive note. My family have really enjoyed themselves very much here."

In a shock development this year, Lane was dismissed by Bok coach Straeuli. The reason given was their different coaching philosophies.

"I have nothing against Rudolf. He made his decision. If they do a backflip like they did (against Australia) at the weekend, they are playing like I said they should all along anyway," laughed Lane.
