Stormers hooker Charl Marais believes modern technology is making life a struggle for teams in the lineouts.
"The contesting is getting better and better. It's getting more difficult for the hooker who throws in the ball and you have to come up with variations all the time, as teams do video analyses and start reading you," said the former Free Stater.
"When you struggle, you'll also find that everybody starts getting tentative. The thrower is under pressure and it filters through to the support players and jumpers."
However, Marais says the Stormers have been working on this aspect of their game ahead of this weekend's clash with the Highlanders in Dunedin and lock Hottie Louw is expected to carry much of the workload.
"Hottie is our primary jumper, but we paid a lot of attention to lineouts (on Sunday) and came up with some new ideas," said Marais after analysing video footage of last Friday's victory over the Hurricanes.
