McLaren announces launch date for 2017 car

McLaren

McLaren will launch its 2017 car on February 24, the same day as rivals Ferrari.

It will carry the hopes of Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne this year and will be the third car of the current partnership between McLaren and Honda. It will be unveiled three days ahead of the first day of testing on February 27 and in the same week as the Ferrari, Mercedes, Force India and Renault.

McLaren is hoping to make significant progress under Formula One's new technical regulations this year and will also benefit from a reworked Honda power unit. 2017 will also mark a new era for McLaren as the new car will be the first to be launched since Ron Dennis was removed as CEO last November.

The car is expected to be called the MP4-32 in line with the team's naming strategy since 1981.
