Lewis Hamilton is set to return to the FIA's Thursday press conference ahead of the U.S. Grand Prix in Austin, the scene of his controversial appearance in Japan.

Hamilton was criticised by some media outlets in Suzuka for playing on Snapchat during the official press conference, posting photos of himself as a rabbit and Carlos Sainz as a deer to the popular app with the caption "This s--- is killing me". The world champion later said he was bored of the format of the Thursday media session and that he had been trying to have fun.

Though his behaviour had frustrated portions of the UK media the controversy looked set to blow over until Hamilton refused to take questions from journalists at his post-qualifying media session at Mercedes. Hamilton, who felt the coverage of his Snapchat use had been "disrespectful", made a statement to the assembled media and then calmly walked out.

Despite the controversy two weeks ago, the FIA has summoned Hamilton to appear with five other drivers at 11am local time this Thursday. F1 rules state drivers must appear if requested, or face sanction from the FIA.
