Daniel Ricciardo has won his first F1 Driver of the Day award for his second position at the German Grand Prix.
Though both Red Bull drivers beat polesitter Nico Rosberg off the line, Ricciardo was passed by teammate Max Verstappen into Turn 1. The pair were placed on alternate strategies in an attempt to stay ahead of Rosberg, with Lewis Hamilton comfortably leading out in front.
Ricciardo's strategy ultimately saw him pass Verstappen late in the race -- something which Red Bull said proved the Dutch teenager is "a team player" -- as they successfully held on to the final two spots on the podium. The result moved Red Bull ahead of Ferrari in the constructors' championship for the first time in 2016.
Ricciardo celebrated second by swigging champagne from his shoe on the podium. The award is based on a public vote, which the F1 website says was a close race between the top three before the Australian ultimately prevailed.
