Renault plans more sessions for Sergey Sirotkin

Renault plans to give Sergey Sirotkin "at least one other" FP1 appearance in 2016 alongside an outing at one of the in-season tests.

Sirotkin made his debut for Renault in the opening Friday practice session in Sochi this weekend and finished an impressive 13th. The Russian driver joined Renault earlier this month as test driver on a "long term development plan".

It remains unclear how many sessions Sirotkin will drive in alongside his GP2 commitments this season with ART but Renault team boss Vasseur says he will be back in the car.

"First we will do some test days outside the grand prix because it makes sense if we want to move forward. He will do at least one other FP1 at the end of the season, but first he has to be focused on GP2."

Sirotkin is joined in the Renault test role by GP2 rival Nicholas Lafiti, while reigning GP3 champion Esteban Ocon -- who will compete in DTM this season -- is at the team in a reserve driver role. The team signed Kevin Magnussen and Jolyon Palmer for its debut season and Vasseur says it is yet to consider its line-up for next year.

"It's a bit too early to talk about 2017. The situation is that Renault is back in F1, it's a mid-term programme for us. We have to build up the team with drivers because I think it's the main pillar of the project. I personally will have a look on all the series, all the drivers.

"For sure Sergey did a very good job over the weekend and I hope he will do in GP2 and the other sessions we will do in Formula One. I would like to ask him to stay focused on the job he is doing."

After his FP1 appearance Sirotkin explained his role in more detail and revealed that issues with his UK visa have prevented him from starting properly.

Asked if he has been to the Renault factory, Sirotkin said: "Not yet, I struggled to get a UK visa so still looking to go to the UK to the factory. It's just that kind of situation when we announced it straight away for Sochi -- it was not done just for Sochi.

"We were probably a bit late to announce and then Sochi was straight after. There is probably more work behind that. I think I have quite a few simulator runs and development things, it's quite nice and exciting."
