Nico Rosberg wants to have "some fun" in the final races of 2015 after admitting it is highly unlikely he will win the drivers' championship.

Rosberg dropped 73 points behind Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton when he retired from the lead of the Russian Grand Prix in Sochi. That DNF also saw him fall seven points behind Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel with four races left.

Having all but written off his championship chances Rosberg is just focused on finishing the year on a high.

"With four races left and a big gap to Lewis, it's clear that the title is a long shot for me now," Rosberg said. "But it's not in me to give up or back down, so I'll be pushing flat out to the end and hopefully having some fun out there in the final few rounds this year. I really want to enjoy the next races, as our Silver Arrow is such a great car and gives me the chance to end the year with a few more wins."

Rosberg has not won since the Austrian Grand Prix but in Sochi looked to have recaptured the form he showed in 2014 when he took the title fight with Hamilton to the final round of the season. Having secured his second consecutive pole and held the lead into the first turn before his untimely retirement, Rosberg heads to the United States Grand Prix full of confidence.

"Austin is definitely somewhere that you can have fun too, so I'm looking forward to going back there. It's a great track to drive, I got pole there last year, and I'm coming off the back of a really strong weekend in Russia in terms of my performance, so if I can repeat all of that then I'll be in a good position. Bring it on!"
