Valtteri Bottas distances himself from Ferrari rumours

Valtteri Bottas claims he does not know where the rumours linking him to a Ferrari drive in 2016 have come from and says his contractual situation has not changed since the last race.

In the break since the British Grand Prix, Italian media reported that Williams had agreed a fee with Ferrari to bring Bottas to Maranello next year. However, Bottas says he has not committed to a team for next year and is willing to be patient while he waits on his options.

"For me there is nothing new to tell you since last time," Bottas said in the Hungaroring paddock. "Obviously there are a lot of rumours.

"Of course as a driver you want it as soon as possible, but sometimes you have to wait. That's life. For sure we are going to tell when there is something to tell about. I don't know where the rumours are coming from."

Since 2014 Williams has returned to the front half of the grid and Bottas believes it will become clear in the next few seasons whether the team is capable of challenging for the championship.

"I think the future will show that. For sure, this season winning is really difficult and I think maybe next year Williams performance is going to show more whether it is possible or not. I've always said I think it is possible, but in F1 it's never easy with any team.

"I believe in the future of Williams, it's a good team and it's been at the top many times. But I have no confirmation yet whether I am going to be a part of that or not and, like I said, whichever team I'm at I will give 100%.

"Everyone at Williams was hoping for a bit of a step again for this year [after the leap forward in 2014], but the performance has been more or less the same to last year at this point. For sure we want it a bit better, but the competition is tough and that's how it goes. During this season we have improved again every time and next year's car could be a step forward, but it's too early to say."

This weekend in Hungary, Bottas will run a new front wing on the car that he believes should provide a good boost in performance.

"We have one front wing to try on Friday and if it's better I am going to be allowed to use it. The rules [in the team] are that if there is only one bit then the one in front in the points gets it first. It should be an interesting test because for the future development it is an important direction they have gone with the wing.

"Let's see, hopefully it works well and here I think the cooling of our car is not going to be a problem at all, you never know. It seems like a lot of people are saying we are going to struggle here massively, but last year we were more or less the same level of competitiveness and I qualified P3. I'm not giving up and there is a possibility for a good weekend."
