Bernie Ecclestone pushing for return of Indian Grand Prix

Bernie Ecclestone is keen to revive the Indian Grand Prix next season after a two-year hiatus.

F1's brief foray in India lasted for just three years of a five-year contract before the race was cancelled in 2014. The official reason was that Ecclestone wanted the race at the start of the calendar rather than the end, but underlying frustrations with bureaucracy and taxation were the main sticking points and were not helped by falling attendances each year.

"I hope we have a race in India next year, I am waiting for the promoters to come back to me," Ecclestone told the Press Trust of India. "We will do whatever is needed to make sure India is back. There are no added challenges to the event. We just need the [race organisers] Jaypee Group to say that 'we are happy to carry on' and we can revive the existing contract."

Ecclestone said Jaypee has to get back to him soon.

"They need to be in a hurry. Within the next two months, we need to know."
