'I'm driving better than ever', says Sergio Perez after qualifying seventh

Sergio Perez said the lap which earned him seventh on the grid in Monaco was one of the best of his career and proof he's in the form of his life.

Force India has struggled this year while it waits for the introduction of its B-Spec car, which is planned for Austria, but Perez managed to haul his VJM08 into Q3 for the first time this season. Perez thinks the team's lack of competitiveness so far this year has hidden how well he has been driving.

"I've said a couple of times right now I'm driving the best in my career," Perez said. "I've reached a very good level, I feel very confident every time I jump in to the car. I think my season has been very good even though the result doesn't show it, because for us to have a great result means you made it to P11 or P12. But every race I've been very consistent, extracting the best out of the car every single weekend and I hope I can continue like that though the rest of the season so people can realise I'm still good enough to do this job."

Asked where he ranked the lap in terms of his career, Perez said: "I wouldn't say my best, but it's certainly hard to remember one as good as this one because given where we were and how good this lap was it is certainly among the best laps of my career."

The Mexican thinks he is perfectly placed to score Force India some valuable points on Sunday.

"That was a really special effort from the whole team. Everyone was really on it today, we know it was a very good opportunity offered to us, we had to make the most out of everything because we obviously had very big limitations in other places. Monaco I think is a very good opportunity for us to score some points and keep our rhythm going because tomorrow if we are able to score a couple of points then that definitely gives us a good kick to encourage the next couple of races before the upgrade comes.

"I think Monaco is a place where the driver can make a difference. To make it in to Q2 was special, but to make it in to Q3 was a very, very special lap, and then to beat so many cars that we were not expecting to beat in Q3 was a mega effort from the whole team. I have to say I am very happy with today's performance. Monaco is 90% qualifying but the other 10% is very important and we have got to make sure we are in the best possible position to score the best possible points tomorrow."
