Leboeuf: Ronaldo deserves a final tribute like Messi (0:48)

After kicking off the second Pitso Mosimane era with a 2-1 home win over Guinea and a 5-0 victory over Eritrea in Cairo, Bafana Bafana will remain in the Egyptian capital to take on Hossam Hasssan's Pharaohs on Sunday.

Egypt are fresh from a 5-0 away Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027 qualifying win over South Sudan - which followed a 0-0 home draw with South Africa's neighbours, Angola.

Tottenham Hotspur's Omar Marmoush - on loan from Manchester City - bagged a brace for Egypt against South Sudan, with the Pharaohs' other goals coming from Mostafa Ziko, Ibrahim Adel and Hamza Abdelkarim.

For South Africa against Eritrea, Union St.-Gilloise's Relebohile Mofokeng was the star of the show in their most recent AFCON qualifier with two goals. Others came from Sphephelo Sithole, Iqraam Rayners and Luther Singh, while Brooklyn Poggenpoel had an impressive game in midfield.

Egypt beat South Africa 1-0 in their last meeting on Boxing Day, 2025, in Agadir at AFCON 2025. Mohamed Salah scored the winning penalty in that group stage clash after a controversial handball decision against Khuliso Mudau.

Key details:

Date: Sunday, Oct. 4 at 9 p.m. in Cairo (8 p.m. SAST, 7 p.m. BST, 6 p.m. GMT)

Venue: Cairo International Stadium (subject to potential changes)

How to watch: SABC is Bafana Bafana's broadcast partner and is expected to air the game in South Africa. ESPN provides updates on African football on our digital platforms.

Team news:

Salah is expected to miss out for Egypt, while South Africa are missing Mudau, Lebo Maboe and Mbekezli Mbokazi through injury. One of the highlights of the last encounter between these teams was the battle between Mbokazi and Salah, but Bafana are not short of defensive talent and Egypt do not lack options upfront.

After missing the Eritrea clash, midfielder Teboho Mokoena and left-back Aubrey Modiba are also doubtful for Mosimane's side. Poggenpoel filled in superbly for Mokoena, as did Samukele Kabini for Modiba. Expected lineups

As per Flashscore, Omar Marmoush had four touches in the opposition box against South Sudan, shooting inside the box three times and scoring twice.

Flashscore stats record Ime Okon (77/80) as having completed the most successful passes in South Africa's 5-0 win over Eritrea.

Pitso Mosimane has won both of his two games since being re-appointed as Bafana head coach on Sep. 1, steering the team to victories over Guinea and Eritrea. The first two games of his first stint also resulted in victories (against Ghana and Niger) but he subsequently oversaw a 0-0 draw to Sierra Leone in his third.
