Chelsea and Lyon both missed vital chances as they played out a goalless draw in the Women's Champions League at the OL Stadium.

The Blues frustrated their opponents, but felt hard done by after they were denied two penalties by the VAR screen which could have earned them an important away victory.

Lyon were denied a winner when Salma Paralluelo's effort was ruled out for offside which ensured they failed to score for the first time in 20 Champions League games, while Lauren James and Ada Hegerberg both spurned late chances which meant both sides continued their respective unbeaten starts to the competition.

Chelsea's first chance came when a corner was half-cleared to Melvine Malard, who hooked an effort straight at Mala Grohs.

Lyon were a threat on the counter and they almost got an opener through a devastating attack after Melchie Dumornay slipped through to Paralluelo who was stopped by Hannah Hampton.

The visitors appealed for a spot-kick at the start of the second period after Tarciane collided with Sjoeke Nüsken inside the area, but was not given after referee Marta Huerta De Aza adjudged Lucy Bronze to be in an offside position at the VAR screen.

Lyon thought they hit the front in the 72nd minute when Paralluelo's deflected effort beat Hampton into the far corner, but the offside flag cut short celebrations.

Chelsea were denied yet another penalty when James was seemingly brought down by Damaris Egurrola, however, the referee overturned her original decision via the monitor again.

The Blues should have won it late when the ball was cut back for James inside the area, who uncharacteristically fired straight at Grohs.

Lyon had a last-gasp chance of their own down the other end, but Hegerberg's header back across goal was magnificently denied by Hampton while Maika Hamano steered wide from close range for the away side.
