11:39pm And that will be that for tonight. We hope you enjoyed our coverage and we will be back with more IPL action tomorrow. Until then, from all of us here at ESPNcricinfo, it is goodbye!
Mitchell Marsh, Player of the Match: Nice to get a win, few and far in between for us this season. We have stuck together as a team and nice to get a reward tonight. (On his form) We have great people within this group, some great kids. (On opening with Inglis) Feels like he takes the pressure off me. Have grown up together playing for Western Australia, we know each other well and it was a good partnership tonight. (Back-end of the powerplay) The first 2-3 overs can be hard work and at the start of the tournament, we were two or three down and were not able to get through. It is a good wicket once you get going. Sort of reminds me of Perth Stadium a little bit (chuckles). (On his dismissal) Cricket is a funny game, isn't it? (On fielding a lot more this season) Had a bit of bad luck in the summer (smiles). Inglis has hurt his finger a few days ago, so he has rightfully taken over the mantle (of being the Impact Player) and I enjoy being out there with the boys - it is always good fun.
Rishabh Pant, LSG captain: (How these wins feel) It feels good. Getting a win definitely feels good. The things we talk about, of having a lot to play for, regardless of how the season ends, we take a lot of pride (in playing like this). (On Akash) He has been working hard. Sometimes, it is harder to give everyone a game. He is one guy who sticks to the plan more often and it definitely paid off. Really good to see. (On the opening partnership) That was the first thought - to get two overseas to open, with Nicky batting three. Four fast bowlers, it has been working for us. The team we have, I am going to say it again, is so amazing. The only thing that can harm us is having too many thought-process. I was ready to bat (tonight). But the idea came in on why not to try players who have not played much. Still wanted to be out there but sometimes, you have to respect some things.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, CSK captain: There was a bit of something for the fast bowlers. Found it difficult to hit it off a hard length. We were looking at 160-170, and got 180. Nothing much better we could have done from a batting point of view. They (LSG) batted well and played some extraordinary shots. We were looking (to bowl the short ball) but Inglis played differently in the last game, and Marsh plays the short ball well, so we were trying to hit a hard length. We missed on execution but they played extraordinary shots. Looking back, once the opening batters fell, coming batters found it tough. Felt there was still something in it (when you hit a hard length). (On how much does this hurt) Sometimes the opposition can play good cricket than you, and you have to accept it. From a batting point of view, Kartik getting that 70-odd was impressive. Going into last couple of games, really confident that we are starting to click (in the batting). Bowling had an off-day today. (On their next two matches) First challenge is getting to Chennai and make sure we improve on the areas we need to improve, and then adapt and assess the conditions. (On their playoff hopes) It is simple, nothing complicated. Nothing to worry about, just ensure we have a good day and hope that we turn things around.
Josh Inglis: We keep playing every game trying to win, not playing for what we want to play for, but good to put in a performance tonight. (On his partnership with Marsh) Felt like I was batting with a stump tonight. The way Mitch started, it really helped. Tried to be mature about it and get off strike. He got us off to a flier. Kamboj did not get the figures he wanted tonight, but he was a little skiddier than the others (and easier to play on this pitch). (On if the pitch got better in the second half) Not the man to ask because it felt hard all the time (smiles). Could not miss the middle of the bat the other day, felt a little rusty (tonight). Felt a bit like a Perth wicket tonight. I have been run-out before (with Marsh hitting it back at the stumps), have learned my lesson and have been staying in my crease or maybe even a couple of yards behind.
11:13pm Some run-chase, eh? At the half-way stage, it felt CSK had lots of runs to play with, especially on a track where run-scoring was not as easy as some other pitches this IPL. Marsh, though, smirked at that narrative and plundered his way to a 38-ball 90, which saw him tear CSK apart. Inglis did his bit too, even if he was not as belligerent as the other evening, with Pooran also indulging in some range hitting towards the end.
CSK looked bereft of ideas once Marsh teed off and as the game came to a close, they looked shell-shocked too. They would have felt they had the resources to make a fist of this game but as it turned out, they fell well, well short.
Here is Deep Gadhia with a stat: Worst economy in an IPL innings (min 2 overs):
Anshul Kamboj v LSG, tonight - 23.6
Washington Sundar v DC, 2024 - 23.0
Ali Murtaza v RCB, 2013 - 22.5
LSG one hit away now
Hello again. 24 off 24, and this is LSG's game to lose. Kamboj back on
Timeout, and Shashwat will be back to close out what will likely be an LSG win
"Since he has come at No. 4 or No. 5, he has been batting exceptionally well," Ambati Rayudu says about the CSK batter
Both Anshul Kamboj and Prince Yadav, contenders for the Purple Cap, went wicketless - and were expensive - in the LSG vs CSK game
Anshul Kamboj was hit for eight sixes by Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran as he returned 2.4-0-63-0 in CSK's loss to LSG
Mitch Marsh is less certain on slower, grippier pitches, but this Lucknow pitch wasn't like that, and he took full toll with a 38-ball 90 to give LSG a rare victory in IPL 2026
Pant said he was "ready to bat," but didn't go out to "respect some things for the think tank"
