Scorecard

Rob Quiney continued his outstanding season with his second century of the match as Victoria steered themselves into a strong position on the third day in Adelaide. At stumps, South Australia needed another 332 runs to beat the Bushrangers, having reached 3 for 113 in their chase of 445, and they were relying on Callum Ferguson, who was on 49, and Tom Cooper, who had 48.

The hosts had been in serious trouble at 3 for 31 after Jayde Herrick struck in the first over and then again in the fifth, bowling both James Smith for a golden duck and Michael Klinger for 5. Andrew McDonald then chipped in with Tom Stray lbw for 9, before Ferguson and Cooper began their recovery mission.

Victoria's captain Cameron White declined to enforce the follow-on after Jon Holland claimed the last wicket in South Australia's first innings early in the first session to dismiss the Redbacks for 224. Instead, the Bushrangers built a big lead thanks to Quiney's 119, which pushed him to the top of the Sheffield Shield run tally after he struck 114 in the first innings. Chris Rogers made 32 and Peter Handscomb scored 39.
