6.44pm: Right, that's your lot from Edgbaston. We'll be back bright and early for day two, but until then, thanks for your company.
Josh Tongue is speaking to Ian Ward on Sky Sports at the close of play. "Really pleased with the day," he says. "To bowl them out for 130-odd, we're in a really strong position. [Pitch?] It looked a good pitch... We bowled really well. [Pressure after choosing to bowl?] There probably is a tiny bit of pressure on us, but we've been very good as a collective, the whole series. I came on four wickets down and feeling fresh. [What worked?] They were four down, so I could bowl that attacking line and length. [Yorker?] Accidental! Slipped out. [Wobble-seam work?] I've spoken to Robbo quite a bit about it... It's just trial and error in the nets. It got me a wicket [Saud Shakeel's]... [Break after Lord's?] My workload has been fairly high so it was a good time to have a break, five days off no bowling. My first bowl was two days before this Test. [Dukes batch?] I've got small hands and they felt big to me... We're picking good balls. [Gay-Brook partnership?] The ball was still doing a bit. They batted really well. Looking ahead, we've got to be right on it. [Pitch expectations?] Come day three or four, we could see more balls going under the bat."
6.34pm: 14 wickets on the opening day at Edgbaston, with England taking a first-innings lead into the second morning. Pakistan were bowled out cheaply, with only Saud Shakeel offering any kind of prolonged resistance against England's seamers. After a brief top-order wobble, Gay and Brook added 104 for the fourth wicket to calm any nerves, and Gay's late chop-on did not change the fact that this way England's day. Razaullah, the Pakistan debutant, was a rare bright spark, cranking it up to 90mph and making Joe Root his first Test victim with only his fourth ball.
Should be time for one more over. Abbas has the ball at the top of his mark.
