Barcelona's Gomes Andre suffers leg muscle injury while with Portugal

Barcelona have confirmed that Andre Gomes has suffered a leg muscle injury while on international duty with Portugal.

Gomes, who joined from Valencia in the summer for an initial fee of €35 million, has been examined by club doctors.

A Barcelona statement said: "In the next week, it will be determined when he can return to the squad.

The statement added: "The medical examination undertaken this morning by the club's doctors has confirmed that the player has a muscular contusion on his right leg."

Gomes, 22, moved to the Camp Nou having been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid.

He told Catalan station TV3 his Portugal teammate Ronaldo had congratulated him on the move and added: "He was happy for me, but now I will remain a rival of Cristiano, as I was before [at Valencia]. On the pitch there is no friendship."
