The statement added: "The medical examination undertaken this morning by the club's doctors has confirmed that the player has a muscular contusion on his right leg."
Gomes, 22, moved to the Camp Nou having been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid.
He told Catalan station TV3 his Portugal teammate Ronaldo had congratulated him on the move and added: "He was happy for me, but now I will remain a rival of Cristiano, as I was before [at Valencia]. On the pitch there is no friendship."
