Erickson, Walker homer as Florida tops Texas Tech to force Game 3


Jocelyn Erickson and Madison Walker each homered Saturday as Florida softball defeated Texas Tech 10-2 at Pressly Softball Stadium, forcing a decisive Game 3 in the Gainesville (Florida) Super Regional.

Erickson led the offensive outburst for the Gators, going 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. Walker went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs of her own. Kenleigh Cahalan also had a big day at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with two RBIs, three runs scored and two stolen bases. Taylor Shumaker and Gabi Comia each added a pair of hits for Florida.

Florida received a strong performance in the circle from Keagan Rothrock, who pitched a complete game. Rothrock allowed two earned runs on five hits over her seven innings, striking out five and walking two.

Texas Tech starter NiJaree Canady struggled, surrendering five earned runs on five hits, including two home runs, in 3⅔ innings while striking out five. The Red Raiders' offense was led by Mihyia Davis, who went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Jasmyn Burns and Lagi Quiroga drove in the only runs for Texas Tech.

The Gators jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Erickson set the tone in the top of the first inning with a two-run home run to make it 2-0. After Texas Tech scored in the third and fourth innings to cut the deficit to 5-2, Florida sealed the victory with a four-run fifth inning, highlighted by a two-run single from Cahalan.
