Arizona State Sun Devils @ Texas Longhorns

Kenzie Brown, Sun Devils stun defending champion Texas in super regional opener
Kenzie Brown delivered a complete-game performance, striking out 10 batters to lead unseeded and visiting Arizona State to a 4-1 victory over defending national champion Texas in the opener of the Austin Super Regional on Friday at McCombs Field.
Brown was dominant for Arizona State (45-16), allowing just one run on four hits and one walk. She retired the final 11 Longhorns she faced, striking out five of them. Catcher Samantha Swan provided the offense, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
Swan gave the Sun Devils a 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the third inning. After freshman Hannah Wells' homer tied it for Texas in the fourth, Arizona State responded with a three-run fifth.
Swan's clutch two-out single scored Ho-Ching and Tanya Windle to make it 3-1, and Ashleigh Mejia, who went 2-for-3, followed with an RBI double to provide the final margin.
Kayden Henry, Viviana Martinez and Ashton Maloney were the only other Texas players to record a hit. Starting pitcher Teagan Kavan worked five innings, surrendering four runs (three earned) on eight hits and two walks while striking out five. The three earned runs snapped Kavan's remarkable postseason streak of 47⅔ consecutive innings without allowing one dating to last year's championship run.
Citlaly Gutierrez pitched two perfect innings of relief for Texas (45-11), striking out two.
Up next: Texas will be the visiting team when it meets Arizona State in Game 2 at McCombs Field on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET.
