Beachum's four RBIs, three-homer barrage power Florida State past Jacksonville State
Jaysoni Beachum drove in four runs and hit one of three Florida State home runs in an 11-0 postseason run-rule victory over Jacksonville State that ended in five innings Saturday at JoAnne Graf Field in Tallahassee.
The Seminoles (50-9) broke the game open with a four-run second inning. Kennedy Harp started the scoring with a solo home run to left field. Later in the frame, Isa Torres hit a two-run triple to deep left, and Beachum followed with an RBI single to extend the lead to 4-0.
Florida State added another four runs in the top of the fourth. Hayley Griggs led off the inning with a solo homer to center. After a single and another hit, Beachum connected for a three-run home run to center, pushing the score to 8-0. The Seminoles tacked on three more runs in the fifth for the victory.
Torres had a perfect day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Makenna Sturgis also went 3-for-3 and scored three times. Beachum finished 2-for-4, while Griggs went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Pitchers Jazzy Francik and Makenna Reid combined for the shutout. Francik went three innings, allowing three hits and striking out four, while Reid tossed the final two innings, giving up one hit and striking out two.
The Gamecocks (45-16) were held to just four singles. Their best scoring opportunity came in the bottom of the third when they put two runners on with no outs, but Francik struck out the next three batters to escape the jam. Emma Elrod, Morgan Nowakowski, Amber Reed and Haleigh Cushingberry each had one hit for Jacksonville State. Starting pitcher Jaliyah Holmes allowed four earned runs in 1⅔ innings.
