UCLA hits three home runs to power past South Carolina in NCAA regional
UCLA defeated South Carolina 7-2 on Saturday in an NCAA regional game at Easton Stadium in Los Angeles. The Bruins used a six-run second inning to secure the victory and advance.
After South Carolina took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, the Bruins' offense erupted. Bri Alejandre ignited the rally with a two-run home run to center field. Later in the inning, Soo-Jin Berry drove in two more with a double. Megan Grant capped the scoring burst with a two-run blast for her 39th home run of the season, extending her NCAA single-season record. Aleena Garcia added a solo home run in the fifth inning, finishing 1-for-2 with two runs scored. Alexis Ramirez also contributed, going 2-for-3 at the plate.
On the mound, Taylor Tinsley went the distance for the Bruins, allowing two earned runs on seven hits while striking out six batters and walking one.
South Carolina struck first when Jamie Mackay hit a solo home run in the top of the second inning. Quincee Lilio provided the Gamecocks' other run with a solo homer in the third. Lilio had a perfect day at the plate, going 3-for-3. Starting pitcher Jori Heard took the loss for the Gamecocks, allowing three earned runs in one inning pitched.
