Davison grand slam powers Arkansas past South Florida
Karlie Davison hit a first-inning grand slam to propel the Arkansas Razorbacks to a 9-1 run-rule NCAA tournament victory over the South Florida Bulls on Saturday at Bogle Park in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Davison's blast was the centerpiece of a five-run first inning for Arkansas. She finished 1-for-3 with four RBIs. The Razorbacks' offense provided plenty of support, with Dakota Kennedy going 2-for-3 with an RBI and Reagan Johnson adding two hits. Kailey Wyckoff drove in two runs with a triple in the third inning, while Ella McDowell and Atalyia Rijo each chipped in with an RBI. Starting pitcher Robyn Herron tossed four innings, allowing one run on three hits and striking out three. Saylor Timmerman threw two scoreless innings in relief.
South Florida was held to just four hits in the contest. The Bulls scored their lone run in the bottom of the third inning on a sacrifice fly by Toryn Fulton. Alexa Galligani, Alex Wilkes, DaNia Brooks and Jamia Nelson each recorded a single for South Florida. Starting pitcher Anne Long was chased from the game in the first inning after surrendering five earned runs on four hits in just one-third of an inning.
The Razorbacks' big first inning started with an RBI single from McDowell before Davison's grand slam. They extended the lead to 8-0 in the third on an RBI single by Rijo and Wyckoff's two-run triple. Kennedy capped the scoring for Arkansas with an RBI double in the top of the sixth inning.
