Cahalan, Brown lead No. 7 Florida in rout of Auburn

Kenleigh Cahalan went 3-for-3 with four RBIs and Ava Brown hit a key home run to power the No. 7 Florida Gators to a 9-1 run-rule victory over the Auburn Tigers in five innings at Pressly Softball Stadium in Gainesville on Friday.

Brown, in her first home game since returning from a five-week injury layoff, launched a solo home run in the fifth inning that sparked the game-ending rally. Townsen Thomas and Taylor Shumaker each contributed two hits for the Gators (42-5), who won their seventh straight game. Pitcher Keagan Rothrock was dominant in the circle, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out four over five innings to earn the win.

Auburn (23-20) struck first, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI triple from Haven Roebuck. The Tigers also got hits from AnnaLea Adams, Ma'Nia Womack and Ava Ratliff, but their offense was stifled after the opening frame.

The Gators were held scoreless for two innings before their offense erupted. In the bottom of the third, Florida plated four runs to seize control. Cahalan delivered a two-run single to give the Gators a 2-1 lead, followed by an RBI single from Thomas and an RBI groundout from Brown to make it 4-1.

Cahalan struck again in the fourth, lacing a two-run single up the middle to extend Florida's advantage to 6-1. In the fifth, Brown led off with her solo shot to left field. The game concluded later in the inning when Gabi Comia hit an RBI double, and a subsequent error by the center fielder allowed the ninth and final run to score, enforcing the run rule.
