Mike Trout surgery among myriad weekend injuries

Fantasy owners who are mighty frustrated with the myriad disabled list transactions of the season were gifted the ultimate one Monday night, as the torn ligament in the left thumb of the best player in the game will cost anywhere from six to eight weeks. Yes, even Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout isn’t immune to a few missed months with injury. Trout, making his maiden voyage to the DL, suffered the malady Sunday afternoon while stealing his 10th base of the season. And yes, the No. 1 overall pick in ESPN average live drafts is also No. 1 on the current Player Rater, which doesn't happen often, but fantasy owners should not simply give up with their Angel out of the outfield for a while.

This injury is not, of course, like many of those littering our fine leagues on a daily basis, like the Dodgers giving a starting pitcher a few days off every other week or someone’s hamstring being tweaked just enough to warrant a short vacation, whereas in past seasons the player would perform through it.
