Williams helps No. 18 Stanford women shut down UNLV 74-33
STANFORD, Calif. -- Kiana Williams scored 14 points with three 3-pointers and No. 18 Stanford rolled to a 74-33 win over UNLV on Saturday.
Alanna Smith and Maya Dodson both added 11 points for the Cardinal (6-4), who were coming off their two-week break for finals.
Anna Wilson and Williams hit back-to-back 3-pointers as Stanford scored the first 10 points of the game. Leading 17-10 after one quarter, the Cardinal limited UNLV to a Brooke Johnson 3-pointer in the middle of the second quarter to take a 35-13 lead at the half. Again Wilson and Williams made back-to-back treys that opened the second quarter, and Williams had a 3-pointer and a 3-point play in an 8-0 run that closed the half.
Stanford made 5 of 10 3s and shot 56 percent in the first half while UNLV shot 19 percent (6 of 32) after making just 1 of 20 shots in the second quarter.
The 33-point total and three-point second quarter are the best for the Stanford defense this season.
UNLV (5-4), which got 19 points from Johnson, finished at 23 percent (14 of 62), making just 3 of 19 3s. It was the Lady Rebels' worst shooting and scoring game of the season.
