Carrington has 13 and 22, No. 14 Stanford beats UC Riverside
STANFORD, Calif. -- DiJonai Carrington had 13 points and a career-high 22 rebounds in her first career start Friday night and the No. 14 Stanford women got their first win of the season 53-43 over UC Riverside.
Carrington reached the double-double on a turnaround jumper with 3:25 left in the third quarter. She had 11 points and 14 rebounds at that point.
Alanna Smith added 11 points for the Cardinal (1-2), who built a 20-6 lead after the first quarter and kept the margin in double digits the rest of the way.
The Highlanders (0-3) had a 10-2 run in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 10 at the final score, but they failed to do more during the final nine minutes as Stanford missed 16 of its last 17 shots. Michelle Curry led UC Riverside with 15 points.
Stanford opened the season ranked 10th and started with two losses in Columbus, Ohio, against then-No. 5 Ohio State and No. 1 UConn.
