Hayes nets 24, No. 17 Miami women turn back Georgia Tech
CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Keyona Hayes scored a career-high 24 points, Adrienne Motley had 17 and No. 17 Miami made 7 of 8 free throws in the last 30 seconds to hold off Georgia Tech 75-70 on Sunday.
Trailing by two entering the fourth quarter, the Hurricanes (21-7, 10-6 ACC) scored the first six points and stretched that into a 15-2 run and led 68-59 with 1:35 to play.
Francesca Pan nailed a 3-pointer to end a drought that lasted more than six minutes when the Yellowjackets missed six shots. Pan connected on a jumper after a Jessica Thomas free throw, and Hayes added four free throws around an Imani Tilford 3-point play. Thomas clinched it with two with 3.1 seconds immediately after another Pan 3.
Thomas finished with 12 points for Miami, whose bench was outscored for just the fifth time this season.
Pan finished with 21 points, Kaylan Pugh had 15 and both had seven rebounds as Tech (16-13, 5-11) had a 48-32 advantage on the boards. Half were on the offensive end for a 23-9 difference in second-chance points.
