Ariel Hukporti's double-double leads Knicks past Nets
Ariel Hukporti recorded 32 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Westchester Knicks to a 114-104 victory over the Long Island Nets on Tuesday night at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
The Knicks (13-22) received key contributions from several players in the road win. Dink Pate scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds, and Dillon Jones added 15 points and six boards. T.J. Warren chipped in with 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists, and Paul Zilinskas scored 12 points off the bench.
For the Nets (18-16), Hunter Cattoor led the offense with a career-high 25 points, including five 3-pointers. Dre Davis had 24 points and seven rebounds, and Alex Schumacher had 18 points and a team-high six assists off the bench. David Muoka finished with 12 points and eight rebounds.
The game was tied at 25 after the first quarter. Westchester created separation in the second, outscoring Long Island 30-21 to take a 55-46 lead into halftime. The Knicks extended their advantage to as many as 16 points in the second half and held off the Nets' comeback attempts.
There was a lengthy delay in the fourth quarter following a foul on Cattoor by Westchester's Nick Jourdain with 5:43 remaining. The play escalated into a confrontation involving players and assistant coaches from both benches. After review, officials assessed double technical fouls to Jourdain and Long Island's Schumacher, as well as to an assistant coach from each team. Cattoor's subsequent free throws cut the deficit to seven, but the Knicks executed down the stretch to seal the victory.
