BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- — Alejandro Vasquez scored 25 points, Efrem Johnson made a 3-pointer with 27 seconds remaining and UAB took down Alcorn State 80-77 on Thursday night.

Vasquez shot 8 for 16 (2 for 6 from 3-point range) and 7 of 7 from the free throw line for the Blazers (2-2). Johnson scored 18 points, going 6 of 9 (4 for 7 from 3-point range). Eric Gaines shot 6 for 12 (1 for 4 from 3-point range) and 2 of 4 from the free throw line to finish with 15 points.

The Braves (1-3) were led in scoring by Dekedran Thorn, who finished with 15 points and three steals. Jeremiah Kendall added 14 points, nine rebounds, four steals and two blocks for Alcorn State. Jalen Hawkins also had 12 points and three steals.
