Elon wins 89-82, its first in 43 years at UNCW
WILMINGTON, N.C. -- Tyler Seibring scored a career-high 32 points and Elon won for the first time in 43 years at UNC Wilmington, beating the Seahawks 89-82 on Saturday.
Elon's last win in Wilmington, North Carolina was a 59-58 victory on Jan. 24, 1976.
Elon (7-15, 3-6 Colonial Athletic Association) has won just three of its last 11 against UNCW (8-14, 4-5), the last a 77-76 victory on Feb. 11, 2017. It was the 20th meeting between the teams.
The Phoenix held a double-digit lead in the second half until an 8-0 surge, capped by back-to-back 3s from Ty Gadsden, pulled the Seahawks to 78-74 with 1:33 remaining. Seibring answered with a fade-away jumper off the glass, and the Phoenix shot 9 of 10 from the line to seal it.
Seibring was 12-of-16 shooting and made five 3-pointers. Steven Santa Ana added 24 points for Elon.
Gadsden finished with 24 points. Devontae Cacok added 20 points and 10 rebounds for UNCW, which has lost four of its last six.
