Daly, Carter help Delaware hold off Elon 86-79 in CAA
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Ryan Daly scored 23 points, Eric Carter added 20 and 11 rebounds and No. 7 seed Delaware held off 10th-seeded Elon 86-79 Saturday night in the opening round of the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament.
Delaware (14-18) will play No. 2 seed Northeastern (21-9) in a Sunday quarterfinal.
Dmitri Thompson scored 22 of his 27 points in the second half and pulled Elon to within 82-77 with his fourth 3-pointer with 37 seconds left. Thompson missed another trey eight seconds later and Delaware made 4 of 6 free throws to hold on.
The Blue Hens shot 57 percent for the game (59 in the second half) and outscored Elon 44-32 in the paint. Ryan Allen added 14 points and Anthony Mosely 13.
Tyler Seibring and Steven Santa Ana each scored 15 for Elon (14-18).
