Goodwin, FGCU take down feisty NJIT 80-73
NEWARK, N.J. -- Brandon Goodwin scored 24 points and Demetris Morant was 8-for-9 shooting for 16 points and nine rebounds to lead Florida Gulf Coast past NJIT 80-73 on Thursday night.
Goodwin and Highlanders' leading scorer Tim Coleman (19 points) engaged in their own shootout in the game's decisive moments in a 90-second span.
Coleman's jumper put NJIT ahead 66-64. Goodwin followed with a 3 for a one-point lead. Coleman countered with his own 3 to put NJIT up 69-67 before Goodwin buried a 3 to put Florida Gulf Coast (21-7, 10-2 Atlantic Sun) ahead for good at 70-69 with 4:16 left. NJIT (9-19, 1-11) shot 1 for 6 the rest of the way.
Christian Terrell scored 15 points and passed out six assists and Antravious Simmons scored 10 points for the Eagles.
Chris Jenkins added 17 points for NJIT, Rob Ukawuba added 14 points and Anthony Tarke had 10 points. NJIT has dropped nine in a row.
