Sibley, Acox combine for 40, Furman reaches 20 wins
CULLOWHEE, N.C. -- Devin Sibley scored 22 and Kris Acox 18 with 14 rebounds as Furman defeated Western Carolina 74-62 on Wednesday night, for its first 10-game winning streak in 37 years.
Daniel Fowler scored 11 points for the Paladins (20-8, 13-2 Southern Conference), while Acox added four assists and four steals and John Davis had five assists, five rebounds and six points. The win also gives Furman its first 20-win season since 2010-11.
With three games left, Furman maintains its 1 1/2-game lead on East Tennessee State (11-3), which eked out a 79-77 win on Wednesday. The two teams meet Feb. 22. The win was also Furman's fifth straight road win, its longest such streak since the 1930s.
Devin Peterson scored 22 to lead Western Carolina (7-20, 2-12) which has now lost five straight. Marc Gosselin added 16 points and nine boards.
