Anderlecht edges Olympiakos thanks to controversial Kara Mbodji goal

Kara Mbodji's controversial strike saw Anderlecht overcome Olympiakos 1-0 in the first leg of this Europa League last-32 tie.

Former West Brom striker Brown Ideye hit the post early on in Brussels, where Olympiakos bossed the shot and possession statistics.

However, Anderlecht ensured they would head to Greece boasting a one-goal lead thanks to Mbodji's 67th-minute goal.

Olympiakos goalkeeper Roberto flapped at a corner from ex-Manchester United full-back Alexander Buttner, with the defender capitalising by turning home acrobatically.

It looked like the goal could be disallowed for a foul but, after consulting the linesman and lengthy discussions, referee Ivan Bebek awarded Mbodji's effort.
