Luton v Bury
Rooney helps Hatters through
Luton progressed to the FA Cup third round after a 1-0 replay win over fellow League Two side Bury at Kenilworth Road.Winger Luke Rooney scored the only goal moments after half-time when his cross deceived keeper Shwan Jalal and went straight into the bottom corner.A quiet opening period saw Bury's Danny Mayor thump a half volley wide while Luton defender Fraser Franks' deflected header hit the outside of a post and went behind.Town were dangerous from free-kicks at times, Luke Wilkinson nodding over the top from Andy Drury's delivery. The hosts' leading scorer Mark Cullen diverted Rooney's goalbound shot off target and was then inches wide with a low daisycutter. After the break Luton got what turned out to be the winner when Rooney's low cross was missed by Cullen but nestled into the net.Hatters were close to a second as Whalley's delivery was just beyond Cullen who clattered into a post.Full-back Scott Griffiths was then denied by a wonderful Jalal save while Town could have won by more with Ross Lafayette and Michael Harriman seeing shots repelled by Jalal. However, Bury's Nathan Cameron missed a sitter in the final seconds, putting a free header straight at Mark Tyler.
