Harry Kane hits hat-trick, 61st goal of season as Bayern see off Stuttgart in German Cup final

Harry Kane cut through the smoke of the German Cup final with a hat trick for Bayern Munich to beat defending champion Stuttgart 3-0 and complete another domestic double on Saturday.

Kane's goals in the second half set off fireworks among the Bayern fans who had joined their Stuttgart rivals in protesting against the German soccer federation (DFB) for a planned increase in security measures.

The protests started after the halftime break when the Bayern fans displayed a giant DFB logo with a line drawn through it over a banner with an expletive against the DFB, while their Stuttgart counterparts had a banner calling for "freedom for the terraces." They both then filled the ends of the stadium with huge pyrotechnic displays, shrouding the field under a cover of smoke.

Kane broke the deadlock shortly afterward with a diving header to Michael Olise's cross in the 55th minute.

That prompted more fireworks from the Bayern fans, worsening the already poor visibility and leading to a break in play.

Diaz cut inside off the left wing and hit a low shot which Alexander Nübel could only parry into the path of Konrad Laimer, who inexplicably missed the open goal from close range.

Jamal Musiala fired just wide and Kane was then unlucky to see a powerful effort from range rattle the crossbar, but the second goal soon arrived.

Kane exchanged passes with Diaz and spun away from Chema Andrés before firing in from the centre of the box to put the game beyond reach for Stuttgart.

Then, with time running out, Olise's cross struck Stiller on the arm and Kane did not waste the hat-trick chance as he placed his penalty beyond the reach of Nubel.

Kane finished with 61 goals for Bayern this season, including the cup, league, super cup and Champions League.

He helped Bayern wrap up the Bundesliga title with four rounds to spare.

It was Bayern's first appearance in the German Cup final since 2000, when they defeated Bayer Leverkusen 4-2 for their previous domestic double.

"Knockout games this year have been big, and I've been able to help the team in a lot of situations, and they've been able to help me," Kane said.

"So, going into this final, I felt like, you know, it was my responsibility, as much as anyone, to get us over the line. I know I'm going to get chances, and I did again today. So I mean, to score a hat trick in the final, it's such a special feeling, and it's just memories I'll remember forever.

"What we've created here as a team and built amongst each other is the feeling that we can beat anyone, the feeling that we're together in every moment -- the good moments, the bad moments.

"And you saw that again today. So everyone is, whether I score the goals or Jonas saves the ball or whoever it is, everyone has their moment, and we do it all together."
