Melbourne Victory kicked off their A-League season in style on Friday with a 4-1 rout of Western Sydney Wanderers at the Etihad Stadium.

Matthieu Delpierre opened the scoring in the eighth minute and Besart Berisha's 20th-minute spot kick put the hosts two up.

Leigh Broxham's goal eight minutes later all but sewed things up within half an hour as he found the back of the net with a strike through the crowded Wanderers defence.

Mark Bridge pulled a goal back for the visitors four minutes before half-time, but any hopes of a comeback were quashed nine minutes after the interval when Archie Thompson bagged a fourth for the Victory.

The Victory next face a trip to Adelaide United, while the Wanderers visit Sydney FC.
