Shakhtar v AEK Athens

It’s full-time here at Stamford Bridge, as Shakhtar Donetsk pick up the first win of their Champions League campaign, beating AEK Athens 3-1. The Ukrainian side would have to come from behind to take the victory in their first game hosted in London. Majer would give AEK the lead in the first half, calmly picking out the bottom corner. It would only take Shakhtar minutes to get themselves back level, with Santana winning a penalty which Pedrinho would convert into the bottom corner. They would snatch the win in the final 10 minutes, with Tobias coming inside from the right and drilling a ball across the box, which would deflect off Brignoli and find the back of the net. Their final goal would be the pick of the bunch, with Mendoza drifting inside and drilling a shot across goal into the top corner. Despite the scoreline, there was little to separate the two teams’ xG, with Shakhtar managing 1.37 and AEK having 1.10. Shakhtar will look to continue their unbeaten run in the Champions League next week, as they travel to Milan to face Inter. AEK will look to bounce back from tonight’s result when they return to England to face Manchester City. Thank you for joining us. Goodbye!
