Horn, Thomas lead Jacksonville State past Austin Peay, 34-14
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- Roc Thomas had 18 carries for 135 yards and two scores, Bryant Horn accounted for two touchdowns, and Jacksonville State beat Austin Peay 34-14 on Saturday.
Jacksonville State (4-1, 2-0 Ohio Valley Conference) has won 11 straight in the series and has won 35 regular-season games in a row against non-FBS foes, dating to a loss at Eastern Illinois (then-No. 2 in the FCS) on Nov. 16, 2013.
Horn hit Trae Barry for a 6-yard touchdown to cap a 17-play, 91-yard drive that opened the scoring with 3:33 left in the first quarter and, after Austin Peay (3-3, 3-1) went three-and-out on the ensuing drive, a 23-yard run TD run by Thomas made it 14-0 just 38 seconds later. The Gamecocks opened the second half with a nine-play, 77-yard drive that made it 27-7 when Bryant scored on a 4-yard run.
Jeremiah Oatsvall hit DJ Montgomery for a 3-yard touchdown to pull the Governors to 27-14 early in the fourth quarter, but De'Marcus Flowers returned the ensuing kickoff 87 yards to cap the scoring.
Austin Peay came in allowing 251.8 yards (No. 7 in the FCS) and 15.4 points (12th) per game, but the Gamecocks had 296 yards rushing on 51 carries Saturday.
