Monmouth wins sixth straight, doubles Presbyterian, 42-21
WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. -- Vinny Grasso returned a Presbyterian College punt 70 yards for what proved to be the game-winning touchdown as Monmouth won its sixth straight game, doubling the Blue Hose 42-21 Saturday afternoon.
The Hawks (8-1) now are 3-0 in Big South play for the first time.
The Blue Hose (3-6, 0-3), shut out in each of their last two games, took the early lead on Will Brock's 9-yard pass to DaShawn Davis in the first quarter to make it 7-0, then hit Riley Hilton from 11-yards out to make it 14-7.
Monmouth, ranked in an FCS poll for the first time in school history, answered with four straight touchdowns, beginning with Michael Jolly's 26-yard run to tie the game at 14-14 at intermission.
Kenji Bahar scored from 7-yards out to put the Hawks in front to start the third quarter, then following Grasso's return, added a 20-yard touchdown pass to Shawn Clark.
