ETSU beats Chattanooga 77-59 in SoCon tourney quarterfinals
ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Jalan McCloud had 22 points, on 10-of-16 shooting, and five assists and Desonta Bradford scored 14 with six rebounds and four assists to help East Tennessee State beat Chattanooga 77-59 in the Southern Conference Tournament on Saturday night.
Bo Hodges and Peter Jurkin added 12 points apiece for ETSU. The second-seeded Buccaneers (24-8) will play No. 6 seed Western Carolina or third-seeded Furman in the semifinals on Sunday.
McCloud scored nine points during a 21-3 run that spanned halftime and gave ETSU a 50-33 lead with nearly 14 minutes to play. The Mocs scored 12 of the next 16 points, including eight by Makale Foreman, to trim their deficit to nine about three minutes later, but McCloud answered with a layup and then a 3 to make it 59-45 with nine minutes left and the Buccaneers led by double figures the rest of the way.
Foreman and Makinde London led No. 10 seed Chattanooga (10-23) with 13 points apiece.
ETSU lost its final three, and four of its last five, regular-season games following a program-record tying 16-game win streak.
