Commentary
France are the toast of the city in which the world-famous Cheers bar is located, after they beat Morocco 2-0 to advance to their third straight World Cup semi-final. It was a dominant attacking display from Les Bleus, epitomised by their 3.04 xG to Morocco's 0.14. Kylian Mbappe, who saw a first-half penalty saved on his record-equalling 20th World Cup appearance for France, made amends on the hour mark. A superb curling shot into the far corner gave him his eighth goal of this tournament. Now the only player to record 10 or more direct goal involvements at two different World Cups, the skipper then turned provider six minutes later. Indeed, he laid the ball into the path of Ousmane Dembele, who curled a low shot past Yassine Bounou to put the game beyond Morocco, whose wait for a first ever victory over France continues. The Atlas Lions bow out after another successful World Cup, giving them plenty of momentum to build on ahead of co-hosting the tournament in 2030. As for Didier Deschamps' side, they remain on course to give their departing head coach the perfect send-off. Next up for them will be either Spain or Belgium in the semi-finals in Dallas on Tuesday.
FULL-TIME: FRANCE 2-0 MOROCCO
Worth a go. Clever thinking from Yassine - the sort that students and graduates of nearby Harvard University would be proud of - as he spots Maignan off his line, and tries his luck from near the halfway line. However, it's just not quite dipping enough to truly trouble the goalkeeper.
CLOSE! Mateta's desperate to get in on the act! The Crystal Palace striker neatly twists away from his marker, and looks to beat Bounou with a reverse shot. However, the goalkeeper does well to make the block, and keep the scoreline at 2-0.
It's set to end in disappointment for Morocco. However, it's been another successful tournament for the Atlas Lions. They avoided defeat against Brazil, beat the Netherlands on penalties, and reached another quarter-final. It's safe to say they have momentum to build on ahead of co-hosting the World Cup in four years' time.
There'll be a further six minutes played at the end of this second half. That's plenty of time for Morocco to launch a late rally. They need the ball first, though, and can't seem to get it back off France.
