Commentary
Despite finding themselves two goals down with 11 minutes to go, Argentina responded as champions do to defeat Egypt 3-2 in the last 16! After Ibrahim's first-half header gave Egypt the lead, it looked like it would not be Argentina's day after Messi saw his penalty saved by an inspired Shobeir, who also kept out Mac Allister and Alvarez before half-time. Zico thought he added a second on the counter for Egypt in the second half, but a VAR review disallowed the goal for an earlier foul on Lisandro Martinez. Nevertheless, Zico did get on the scoresheet in the 67th minute after fine work from Hassan on the right wing. However, the comeback started in the 79th minute as Romero headed in from Messi's cross. Messi then scored himself four minutes later, rifling in his first-time strike to set up a tense finale. And it was Fernandez who would provide the decisive moment as he headed into the far corner in the 92nd minute to send Argentina into the quarter-finals. Argentina produced more xG (2.8 to 0.98) and recorded almost four times as many shots (19 to five), but Egypt were incredibly close to pulling off a huge shock in the tournament. Argentina, meanwhile, will face either Switzerland or Colombia in the last eight. That's all from us, goodbye!

Hassan was booked after the final whistle for dissent.
FULL-TIME: ARGENTINA 3-2 EGYPT
The Argentina bench is almost on the pitch as they await the final whistle. There was a large stoppage after Fernandez's goal, so the referee will award a few more minutes.

Attia now enters the referee's book for a tactical foul on Lautaro Martinez.

Egypt throw Zizo on in place of Lasheen as they hope to cause another twist in this tale.
