Commentary
De Ketelaere’s match to remember sees Belgium advance to the quarter-final stage of the World Cup for the third time in a row, following their 4-1 win over the United States at Seattle Stadium. The Atalanta forward was in the right place at the right time to turn Raskin’s pass across the face of goal over the line just nine minutes in, giving the Red Devils an early lead to protect. The USMNT offered very little in the proceeding phase of the game, but Tillman’s deflected free-kick just after the half-hour mark restored parity out of nowhere with their first shot of the contest. A response was swift from Belgium, who would once again take the upper hand 120 seconds later through De Ketelaere, who completed his brace with a tidy far-post header over the back of Ream, though he wasn’t done there, as he added an assist for Vanaken’s goal by poking possession away from an out-of-position Freese to clear the path for his team-mate to double the lead. Lukaku would make it four deep in stoppage time thanks to a clinical strike following Vanaken’s determined pressing, which sealed an emphatic result for the winners of Group G. A deserving Belgium advance to the quarter-final stage after outperforming their opponents on xG 2.15 to 0.67, where they’ll take on Spain in four days at Los Angeles Stadium, while the USMNT’s tournament comes to an end in the round of 16. That concludes our commentary of the 2026 World Cup round-of-16 knockout tie between the United States and Belgium - we hope you’ve enjoyed it!
FULL-TIME: UNITED STATES 1-4 BELGIUM
Though he may not intentionally have shifted the ball on to Lukaku, Vanaken certainly deserves credit for the assist for tireless pressing to win possession back, even at the 93rd minute of the match.

LUKAKU ADDS TO HIS TALLY! 4-1 BELGIUM! The all-time record goalscorer for the Red Devils notches another, as Richards’ poor attempt to dribble out of trouble at the back runs him straight into the pressing Vanaken. The ball bounces off the legs of the substitute and straight to a fortunate Lukaku, who cuts inside from the left and curls a low finish into the bottom corner!

Balogun comes off without a goal to his name tonight, as Wright will lead the line in the closing minutes.

Antonee Robinson makes way for Arfsten with two minutes to go in stoppage time.
