Spurs v Aston Villa

Aston Villa have lift-off in the Premier League, recording their first victory of the season after holding on for a 3-2 win over Tottenham. The damage was done by the 79th minute, when Villa established a 3-0 lead, with Spurs' two late strikes proving academic. The visitors, who had a marginally inferior xG of 1.16 to their opponents' 1.22, took the lead in first-half stoppage time. A poor clearance from Robertson allowed McGinn to tee up Kamara, whose ball towards goal was helped in by Manzambi. It was the latter's first goal on his first start for his new club, and he followed it up with an assist midway through the second half. Indeed, the Switzerland international teed up Jackson, who brilliantly drilled past Kinsky on the half-volley. Buendia made it 3-0 in emphatic fashion 11 minutes from time, magnificently curling into the top corner from 25 yards out. Gallagher climbed off the bench to scramble home Tottenham's first league goal of the season in the 86th minute. Van Hecke headed home another deep into stoppage time, but it couldn't prevent another defeat for Spurs, who drop into the relegation zone ahead of the international break. Their latest quest to get back on track takes them to Old Trafford, where they will face Manchester United on October 10.
