It’s all over at the MKM Stadium, as Hull City and Aston Villa can’t be separated in a goalless draw. In truth, the whole contest lacked quality, with the onus on Villa to turn the screw – something they didn’t do enough of despite their 1.74 xG. Jackson, Hemmings and Barkley all had chances in the first half to open the scoring, but none could find the net. The second half started in much the same fashion, with the Villans enjoying total control. McGinn should have made it count when his clipped effort carried too much on it and drifted over the crossbar, before Buendia blazed over in front of goal in the visitors’ biggest chance of the match. Hull then had their moments, with Belloumi seemingly set to rip the net off had it not been for the crossbar after his edge-of-the-box strike. Substitute Cho could only fire straight at Suzuki, before McBurnie couldn’t quite stretch to meet a wonderful Giles cross as the Tigers finished with an xG of just 0.58. It’s yet another clean sheet for Sergej Jakirovic, who will be the happier of the two managers as he sees his side move up to second for now, before travelling to Sunderland.
