Odom leads Texas Southern over MVSU 38-21
ITTA BENA, Miss. -- Elijah Odom ran for 172 yards and two touchdowns and Texas Southern picked up its first win, beating Mississippi Valley State 38-21 on Saturday.
Odom also threw for 64 yards and a score. Brad Woodard ran for 84 yards and a touchdown. The TSU defense held MVSU to -15 rushing yards and sacked Christopher Fowler four times.
Odom hit Darvin Kidsy for a 15-yard score midway through the first quarter then followed with a 20-yard TD run early in the second. Mario Smalls picked up teammate Woodward's fumble at the goal line for a score with 6:52 left in the half and the Tigers (1-7, 1-4 SWAC) led 21-7 at the break.
Fowler threw two touchdown passes to Quinn McElfresh in the second half to tie it 21-all with 11:35 remaining but Texas Southern roared back on scoring runs by Woodard and Odom and a field goal by Aaron Cuevas for the final.
Fowler finished with 313 yards and three touchdowns for the Delta Devils (2-7, 1-4).
