Stetson holds off Brown 17-13 for first win of season
DELAND, Fla. -- Colin McGovern ran for two scores, Stetson's defense grabbed two interceptions that led to scores, and the Hatters held off Brown 17-13 on Saturday for its first win of the season.
McGovern scored what proved to be the winning TD on an 8-yard run six plays after Colby Duncan picked off a third-quarter pass by Thomas Linta on the Brown 30.
After Stetson missed a fourth-quarter field goal, Brown's Darius Daies scored on a 12-yard run to cap a 75-yard drive with 8:55 left. The Bears reached the Hatter's 34 with 1:48 to play before fumbling the ball away.
McGovern was 26 of 36 for 269 yards passing for Stetson (1-5), and also scored on a 7-yard run for a 10-7 halftime lead. McGovern gained 28 yards on 15 carries, but the Hatters were held to 57 total yards on the ground.
Brown (2-2) led 7-3 in the second quarter after Linta, 14 of 21 for 143 yards with the interception, hit Jaerlon Blanburg on a 40-yard pass.
